
The improvement of the Queen’s Market building and surrounding spaces is a key priority for the council run by Newham Labour.
The £7.3 million improvements, which will be funded by Newham Council and the Mayor of London and co-designed with the community.
The projects include improvements to the look, feel and function of the market, a new creative wellbeing community space, public space improvements to Queens Square and new affordable workspace.
The Mayor of Newham, Rokhsana Fiaz, said: “Queen’s Market is a cherished community asset and we want to invest in modernising its buildings because shoppers, traders and residents deserve the very best.
“We remain committed to continuing with the investment which we have been making to improve the market and the surrounding area in order to provide more choices and a better experience for residents, traders and shoppers.
“We have been listening to local residents, shoppers and traders and we will continue to work with the local community so together we consider the communities investment options. I share the excitement of the local community, who are telling me they want to get the benefit from this investment as quickly as possible.”
