Cash boost to improve the Greenway

Newham Council has been awarded £50,000 from The Mayor of London’s Rewild London Fund for The Greenway Pollinator Trail.

This will create new habitats for bees, butterflies and pollinators across the Greenway.

A successful pilot of the wildflower verges took place in 2021.

Cllr James Asser, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainable Transport said:

“I am delighted that we have secured this funding for The Greenway Pollinator Trail.

“Rewilding offers the possibility to support the recovery of nature, by creating more natural spaces for a range of wildlife – from insects through to large mammals and birds.

“Taking this approach will help enhance biodiversity and preserve and improve our green spaces – all of which can positively impact on health and wellbeing, foster a sustainable economy, and help address climate change.

“The Council is keen to see more opportunities to support nature in this way, and this funding is an important step forward in this work.”

As the project progresses there will be various opportunities to get involved with the pollinator trail.
